This epic grid system of bespoke shelving would be imposing for a public museum, let alone a private residence high up at penthouse level. The sp_penthouse by architect Marcio Kogan spans three floors, with the highest enjoying double-height ceilings, allowing the library to be so spatially striking. Wide, panelled corridors act as interconnecting galleries for art and the home spa features a lap pool with exotic gardens looking out over São Paulo.

Scraplights are a series of lampshades built from layers of laser-cut cardboard. Both organic and sculptural in form, they create a warm, glittering diffusion of light through their corrugated edges and are as eco-friendly as they are beautiful. Each shade is hand-crafted from recycled card and come in a range of styles, from classic domes to more eccentric forms inspired by nests.

Vision is a modular storage system by Pastoe comprising of a collection of cabinets of various heights and widths that can be combined in infinite compositions. All elements are seamless and opened by pushing each front panel. The philosophy of Vision is that cabinet composition should be a part of the total room architecture, a customisable grid system of relief and flat plane, volume and empty space that is as artful as it is practical.

The Charles chair, designed by Marcel Wanders for Moooi, is an elegant take on the easy chair. The block geometric structure contrasts sharply with the delicate frame it leans on and its graceful angle evokes the Art Deco era's obsession with movement and speed.

THE

BIG

EASY

'No two materials are alike. No two sites on earth are alike. No two buildings have the same purpose. The purpose, the site, the material determine the shape. Nothing can be reasonable or beautiful unless it’s made by one central idea, and the idea sets every detail. A building is alive, like a man.'
