Repurposing existing spaces to create new housing is becoming increasingly vital, especially in an urban environment as crowded as Mexico City. Dr. Atl 285 was built in the late 60s and BAAQ´ architects were keen to preserve its industrial heritage, retaining the facade and keeping the interior spaces raw. Cubik wooden-storage elements act as dividers and can be reconfigured depending on the occupant’s needs. Above and outside, the roof has been turned into an urban garden, producing food and creating a green social area above the urban sprawl.

Shaped by ocean waves and gently bleached by the sun, driftwood brings a soft, relaxed feel to any modern space. This teak collection from Tikamoon includes seating, tables and storage that evoke simpler times with their organic lines and honest construction.

Solaz Los Cabos Hotel by Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos lies on the peninsula of Baja California, a semi-desert environment overlooking the Sea of Cortes. Apartments, restaurants and spa areas follow the natural topology of the coast and descend in terraces down to the long-lined beach club on the sand. Natural materials, green roofing and planting with species native to the area all ground the wide, modern spaces into the local landscape.

The wall switch now needs to control more than ever, with audio systems, complex lighting arrays and other home electronics. Keyboard, designed by Enrico Corelli for PLH, pays homage to this home computerisation with buttons that emulate computer keys. Available in various gridded combinations in micro-sanded aluminium with matt-black keys.
